Cozy Is As Cozy Does

Doesn't this pretty lamp evoke a feeling of comfort with its golden color and pineapple pattern.  That soft illumination invites us to slow our pace, maybe stop beside it with a book, or a cup of hot cocoa.  It would be a nice lamp to cozy a corner of a living room, or set on an end table beside a fireplace, don't you think?

Cozy works well in our workspaces, too.  It makes the studio or office or cubby seem just right.  Which makes the art of writing, painting, or sewing, seem very right as we relish the coziness of it all.

How do you make your craft cozy?  Do you have a framed photo on your desk?  Carry a quilted camera bag?  Wear a pretty apron?  Put fresh flowers on a nearby table?  Light candles?

How do you cozy up?

~Joanne

  1. Ooh, I love this, and I absolutely couldn't agree more. There are six framed photos on my desk (two with family, one with friends, one with a news anchor I'm friendly with, and two with my favorite authors), along with a beach-themed lamp and starfish decorative piece. Not only does it make me feel cozy, but it inspires me and also makes me feel like I'm writing by the coastline :)

  2. Oh my goodness, my crit partner would LOVE this lamp!!! She has a series coming out and the first book is called Pineapples in Peril.
Best wishes on your blog tour, btw!

Oh, nothing cozy in my area except a blanket. I write on the couch. :-)

  3. I love cozy! Small spaces can be so inviting, but clutter is death to peace. So clutter doesn't equal cozy. Getting to my point-- I get rid of clutter and surround myself with things I love.

  4. Shari - People you love and the atmosphere of the beach ... Perfection :)

Jessica - I came across the lamp in an antique shop, there's something so inviting about it. And good luck with your tour, too ... It's lots of fun connecting with bloggers during the set-up.

Karen - Me, too. Just a few of the right pieces set the perfect writing mood.

  5. Coffee and pajamas. Yes, that is how I get cozy for churning out my craft! :)

  6. A change of scenery always seems to help me get into the mood. With my laptop, I can write Anywhere. But I could really, really use a small and comforting light to move with me throughout the house. I'm inspired!
    Thank you, Joanne. <3

Scarlett - I love the ambiance of varying lamplights. This one here is so inspiring ...

  9. Probably need to work on that element. I'm happy just to have quiet.

I've been on a pineapple kick lately. Looking for one for my front door actually.

  10. I decorate the bookshelf that sits next to my writing chair with cute baskets and book related things, like a pencil holder that is ringed with book spines and the figurine of a mama bunny reading to her babies.

  11. Coffee, tea, gazing out the window, and Leo the cat. Although, he can be distracting. Like right now. "Leo, get off the table!"

  12. I write in a room on the second floor of our house, painted in a buttery colour of choice.
When I get tired, or need a break, I just look out the window to see the sky, a silver maple that has starred in my blog, seasonal impact of green grass/white snow.
In the summer, working on the deck is great, now, since family gifted me with an iPad last year.
Joanne, thanks for the iPad link to YouTube for your novel glimpses!

  13. I had to make myself some hot cocoa after reading this ;) For me it's after the kids are in bed and I get to just be with my husband and unwind from the day. Nothing better!

  14. I have a small office I work in that is pretty much all mine. At the moment it isn't very cozy at all, other than by virtue of it's small size. Your post has reminded me that I really need to redo that room. I think I'm going to make it my spring project. PIllows! Paint! Lamps! Oh, yes, this could be fun. :)

  16. I have a beautiful canvas screen with an image of the Eiffel Tower. It divides my office space and creates a cozy working nook. I love seeing its ornate brown swirls and Parisian flair. Tres chic and cozy indeed!

  17. I have windows looking out on my garden areas and my horses. Usually it inspires me, but today I can see that is very cold and rainy, and it makes me feel bad for the ones who are choosing to stand out in it.

  19. I'm still working on making my current writing space cozy, but for the time being, I've been taking myself TO a cozy place -- the library. I found a little nook where I sit with my laptop. It has skylights up above -- very inspiring.

  20. I keep a picture of Amy next to my tabletop sized lighted palm tree:)

    I love that lamp too!

  21. This is why I love it when it rains. I like to cozy up with a blanket, mug of hot cocoa, and a book. Reading while listening to the rain is therapeutic.

  22. I'm more sleek than cozy, but I do have a fair-sized sea shell that I use as a paperweight atop my manuscript pages. Maybe that's "Coastal Cozy" :)

  23. Gorgeous lamp! It does look warm and inviting. I don't know if my workspace is "cozy," though. I do have personal touches like kitten calendars and a painting, my favorite knick-knack, a little stuffed cow. :)

  24. Becky - The candles sound nice, but I'd probably use scentless for my space.

Wendy - Pineapples are such a nice symbol of welcome, perfect on a door. Happy shopping to you.

Janel - Lots of charm going on in your nook.

  25. Mary - See, that's the thing about cats. Even when they're on top of our work, we can't help smiling :)

Patricia - I like the sound of that buttery color, so inviting and warm! And I'm glad the Youtube channel works for you ... Hope you enjoy the videos.

J.A. - Glad to inspire a hot chocolate this winter day :)

Andrea - Coffee has that magic, doesn't it.

Mary - It's such an inspiring image, too, affiliated with art, and history, and style ... Your cup of tea, if I do say so myself :)

  27. Linda - From what I've seen on your blog, your view is just breathtaking. But do tell, which horse is choosing to stand out in the rain?

Patti - Cozy on the go, very convenient indeed!

Shelley - I've done that, at my town library and the local university library. Both places are so writing-oriented.

  28. Valerie - Both images are so happy ... Your daughter, AND a lighted palm tree. Guaranteed to bring a smile :)

Emily - I love a rainy day for just that reason. It's so comforting to be cozy inside with the rain at the windows.

  40. I have a stuffie, with big eyes, smiling at me.

(We'll just ignore the cluster of Diet Dr. Pepper can for now, shall we?)

  41. JW - Me, too. I love the golds, and brass. So warm and comfortable.

Patti - I absolutely love the thought of that, to create a cozy home so you're always surrounded by cozy. I like to think I'm doing the same thing :)

Stina - Well, the Diet Dr. Pepper can work, if you arrange them just right ;)

  42. Ah, I love cozy. And that's a great lamp. For me, cozy comes from warmth (maybe a fire in the fireplace), a yummy cup of tea, and yes, candles. Throw in a good book or some writing time and I'm a happy girl.

  47. I cozy up any space with one of the books I am reading currently or sometimes even one I've already read (especially if its writer and contents continue to inspire me), a notebook and a couple of pens to scribble fleeting thoughts, article outlines and lengthy reflections on the days events, life in general and writing.

  48. Hi Joanne! I think I cozy up by going into my little studio room. It is comfortable for me and the colors and projects, pictures and knick knacks displayed help to make it feel like a cozy, safe and inspiring place where I want to work. I hope you have a wonderful day ahead! Delisa :)

  52. For me, lamps are integral for making a place cozy. I hate overhead lights. Cats also help to make a place cozy, too. ;-)

  53. Oh, I LOVE cozy! My office has an easy chair with a pretty throw on it. A lamp with a pretty shade (maybe not that pretty). Paneled walls and no windows, which I find cozy. Personal stuff tacked up.

  54. It was Beautiful who stood in the rain and made Cowboy stand with her. (She likes to boss him around and won't let him enter a stall.)

  55. Melissa - Cats make a work space purr-fect :)

Marcia - You've definitely got a lot of cozy going on there ...

    ReplyDelete
  56. Linda - Why am I not surprised that it was your wild mustang wanting to stand out in the rain. I remember when you introduced her to the herd and she had no authority. Looks like that's changing with Cowboy!

  57. To be honest, I try not to make myself too cozy. Too cozy puts me to sleep!

Talli - Candles are definitely getting the cozy votes here!
