Whole Latte Life - The Miniseries

Who doesn't love sitting in a theater before the movie begins and watching the Movie Trailers promoting upcoming films?  They're fun, have a great hook, and pique our interest in the movie.

Publishers and authors try to capture the same response by creating Book Trailers for upcoming books.  As I planned for my novel's March release, I considered creating a Book Trailer.  But I took the concept in a new direction and have created three Book Webisodes.

Here's why.  My book journeys through the characters' lives.  The mood throughout changes.  So I wanted to show you more than a trailer.  Think of Webisodes as a sort of Scene Selection, like you'll see on DVDs.  But these are Chapter Selections, as we thumb through the story.  In my Book Webisodes, I take a pivotal direct quote from the novel that captures a theme and expand it on film.

So friends, sit back and enjoy Matinee Monday.  Starting today and continuing for the next two Mondays, I'll be premiering the Webisode Miniseries of Whole Latte Life ... A Novel.  For iPad and mobile device users, click on my YouTube link on the blog sidebar. Popcorn's popping in The Comments, stop by if you have any questions ... The Director's in the house.

  5. Talli - Thanks, rather than showcasing themes, which trailers do, I wanted to feature some of my writing too. So I'm trying something new here. Each one will have a very different feel ... Stay tuned.

Hilary - Thank you Ms. Hilary, that means a lot. The show will be running all day, and I'm so glad you enjoyed my opening scene.

Ayda - Glad you enjoyed my hook, each webisode will expand on the story.

  9. Oh, wow, that was really terrific. I like how you left a little mystery at the end. What a great idea to make a miniseries. You're obviously very good at the video stuff.

  13. L.G. - I thought that the series is a way of expanding the story, while giving the reader a feel for the writing too. Kind of like taking things a step beyond a Trailer. It's fun to explore these marketing options ...

    Shelley - I really appreciate that :)

Karen - I thought giving the hook its own Webisode would make for an interesting visual, giving a sense of those opening pages. It's good to know it works for you.

  17. Fantastic! Like the music and the visuals!
Works on the desktop Mac just fine. Will check out youtube just for fun.
    Can't wait for part two.:0
    Two questions, Joanne:
    1) will you book a bloggers tour with WOW? would be great!
2)your recent survey-would you mind sharing the source for making it?Would like to try but could not find a gadget on blogger. On my WP blog, it only allows one question--want to ask 2 or 3.
    Thanks if you can help.

  22. Delisa - Happy to provide the Monday entertainment today ...

Patricia - I'm glad you like the music, I wanted something that set the tone and I think that it does. I am going to have a blog-book tour, but won't be using WOW. I'm working with my daughter on my PR, and she's actually setting up an amazing tour with lots of great stops. I'll be announcing the tour stops closer to publication. She's actually the brainchild behind the Webisodes, too, and really worked with me to get these made and in place.

The Survey was made through Google Docs. I'll send you a quick email with a few more details.

  23. Linda - Okay, have fun and I'll be waiting ...

Valerie - Thanks, I worked with my daughter on it, and think she did amazing work. I'll pass along your praise :)

One MN Writer - Oh we are having fun, more than I'd thought we would ... Working with my daughter on the PR/Digital media end is an added bonus.

  27. Great. Very intriguing. Now, I'm wondering why, what happened, and what will they do next? I've never heard of webisodes, but it's a great concept. I like book trailers, too. I want to do a video clip of my play when it's finally performed.

  28. Joanne, this is genius! I can tell you are having so much fun with this experience.

  37. Wow! I didn't know it was that kind of book. She never came back?? I'm hooked!! That was really fun. I've never seen anything like it before.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I don't see the link. Is it because I'm on my iPad? I'll look on my home computer tomorrow. I'm excited.

    ReplyDelete
  39. I was able to get to it via your you tube link on the side. I think it is fantastic, and I think you are very clever. I may have to steal your idea eventually.

    ReplyDelete
  40. Fascinating! Can't wait to hear more!!

    ReplyDelete
  41. You've already hooked me, the last line was a killer!

    ReplyDelete
  42. Very kewl trailer.

Absolutely love the music of choice as it seemed to fit like a hand in a glove.

    ReplyDelete
  43. Wow, talk about ending with suspense. I'm not a big book trailer fan since most are lame, but this one was really good (even if it wasn't a book trailer). :D

    ReplyDelete
  44. Linda - I'm curious to know ... What type of vision did you have of the book before the video? And I'm glad you enjoyed this vision, too :)

Margaret - I hope it hooked you, it's definitely fun giving a visual to the written story.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Claire - Tune in next week :)

Sarah - That last line reverberates throughout the story, actually.

    ReplyDelete
  46. G - You know I love music, and the music was really important to me in these Webisodes. I totally give my daughter credit for finding just the right sounds.

Stina - So many different qualities have to be called upon to mesh and communicate that hook. I'm glad to know that we meshed them effectively!

  47. A lot of times, I feel like book trailers take on too much. They're too long, too generic, and they don't get into the story. So I'm lovin' Book Webisodes--quick snatches of the story and with actual quotes from the book no less. Can't wait for everyone to pick up Whole Latte Life and read those passages they see on the screen!

    ReplyDelete
  48. Fabulous webisode, Joanne. And congratulations on your book! Wonderful news. :D

    ReplyDelete
  49. I love it. I'm totally hooked. And I have to say that I liked it better than a lot of book trailers out there.

    ReplyDelete
  50. Wow! Freaky! I am definitely wondering what happened!

    ReplyDelete
  51. Great idea -- and big congrats on the book!

    ReplyDelete
  52. Mary - I felt the same way, that trailers try to do too much. This way, it's more a way of thumbing through the pages, getting a feel for the story :)

Jayne - Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it.

    ReplyDelete
  53. Patti - Thanks, it's nice to know that.

Deana - Stay tuned for Parts 2 and 3 :)

    ReplyDelete
  54. J.A. - Thanks!

Cindy - Thanks, Cindy. I'm having lots of fun traveling down this publishing road.
