As Matinee Mondays continue, I'm presenting the second scene-selection from my novel. Today we're travelling visually into the heart of Whole Latte Life. This Webisode, Ghosts, takes a quote from the book that looks at how memories haunt my main character Sara Beth as she struggles to make pivotal decisions in her life. My feeling is that at some point, don't we all catch a glimpse of these ghosts?

Paging through the book, we start to understand Sara Beth's disappearance. I hope you're enjoying the journey.
ReplyDeleteCool concept Joanne:)
ReplyDeleteGhosts come in all shapes, sizes, colors, and forms. Memories certainly can be ghosts that haunt. Don't they have a Ghost Begone in a spray can, or is life not that simple?
ReplyDeleteI love your teasers Joanne. I have so many ghosts. Thankfully, in the past few years, they seem to have found their rest.
ReplyDeleteLindsay - Thanks, I thought I'd move a step beyond the trailer and try these.
ReplyDeleteStephen - Memories can be the most potent, though. They certainly are for my main character.
Sarah - That's what Sara Beth is trying to do, set them to rest as she listens to their message.
Still more questions than answers at this point ~ and that's the sign of a good story!
ReplyDeleteI truly love the addition of ghosts - your take on them is wonderful, Joanne! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, we all have ghosts...I guess it's a matter of which ones or one we allow to haunt us the most. Definitely enjoying the journey, Joanne! Looking forward to next Monday.
ReplyDeleteWonderful video. Really, one of the best trailers out there.
ReplyDeleteAnd I have ghosts in my novel that function as a sort of manifestation of my character's guilt. She's the only one who sees them, but it's perfectly normal for her. She's been seeing them since she was a child and her mother died.
This is brilliant, your doing this!
ReplyDelete~ Wendy
I love these trailers. Looking forward to the next.
ReplyDeleteSharon - I think that's the intent of a trailer, not so much to tell the story, but to raise questions the reader will want to know the answers to ... So, thanks :)
ReplyDeleteCafe Fashionista - These types of ghosts, memories casting doubts, are very potent in my story.
Andee - In my novel, it's my character's response to them that helps shape her actions.
I love these webisodes Joanne! I'm going to get more popcorn right now:)
ReplyDeleteL.G. - My character's mother plays a role with her haunting memories, too. And thank you for your kind words, I appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteWendy - Thanks, it's an amazing process, putting my work out there in this new way.
Ayda - Stay tuned for a beach day :)
Awesome.... I'm getting anxious to read this new book!
ReplyDeleteI've been anticipating this! Beautifully done. I AM enjoying the journey. (And my curiosity about Sara Beth is still very high)
ReplyDeleteCatherine Denton
ooooo, nice. I can't wait for the next one.
ReplyDeleteThat is one of my most favorite lines from the book. And I can't wait for everyone to read the context behind the Webisode, too. When readers come across that passage in the book, they're going to start hearing those notes of classical music and envisioning the plane and thinking of Sara Beth's what if's and maybe their own what if's too. Ah, and one of my favorite characters who I cannot name yet! <3
ReplyDeleteFor some reason your video isn't playing for me, but I know what your saying. For me a lot of my ghosts are just regrets.
ReplyDeleteYep, I'm enjoying the journey. This is a great build up. Now, give us the book!
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed. There are some times in our lives when those ghosts haunt us much more than others. And then at other points, we finally lay them to rest.
ReplyDeleteYes, indeed. There are some times in our lives when those ghosts haunt us much more than others. And then at other points, we finally lay them to rest.
ReplyDeleteClaire - I'm glad to hear that :)
ReplyDeleteCatherine - You'll be meeting her soon. But come back next week to see some of her friend Rachel's story ...
Southpaw - I'm looking forward to sharing it, too.
Mary - That's one of my favorite passages, too. And to think it was late coming to the book, added at the last revision, and now so necessary.
ReplyDeletePatti - They do have that way of haunting us sometimes, leaving us wondering ...
Linda - I might relinquish one soon to a lucky commenter. But not yet!
ReplyDeleteMelissa - And it's the journey from haunting to laying to rest that weaves through the story.
I love your video and I love your phrase Webisode.
ReplyDeleteIntriguing.
I love how you're doing this miniseries of trailers. I'm enthralled :)
ReplyDeleteI'm enjoying your webisodes. Ghosts do have a way of making our present reflect on our past with the memories they bring.

ReplyDeleteStina - Thanks, it's interesting exploring these marketing options.
ReplyDeleteSusan - Glad you like it, stay tuned for more :)
Fabulous, Joanne! Memories and ghosts - essential foundations for complex, rich stories. I suspect that is how we'll see your book when it comes out: complex, rich.
ReplyDeleteI love that idea! It really gets me thinking :)
ReplyDeleteVERY NIIIIICCCE! :D
ReplyDeleteIntriguing. Captivating. Can barely wait for it Joanne.
ReplyDeleteOne MN Writer - I always enjoy novels with those ghosts, and tried to make them an integral part of mine ...

ReplyDeleteCheryl - Thanks, I hope you'll tune in next week when we travel to the beach ...
Love this. Gets me every time.
ReplyDeleteThe music and the map really pique my curiosity.
ReplyDeleteJen - Me, too ...
ReplyDeleteMary - I wanted to show the story shifting gears with the music, and this piece seemed fitting.
Hi Joanne .. very interesting - different countries, the ?treasure map, the writing on the stave ..
ReplyDeleteI'm sure we could all conjure ghosts if we put our minds to it ---
Looking forward to #3 off there now ..
Great production and fun promotion .. cheers Hilary
